JACKSON - The Jackson Jaguar Marching Band held their Showcase of Champions band competition. Twenty-two bands competed at the USSBA officiated event. The competition drew over 2,000 spectators. The annual home competition is the band's biggest fundraiser.
This year, the proceeds for the Showcase of Champions were used to purchase a uniform trailer, just in time for the USSBA Regional Championships in Allentown, PA and the USSBA National Championships in Annapolis, MD, where the band placed third. The trailer is equipped with enough garment racks and hat stands for all 175 band students and color guard members. Transporting the uniforms in the trailer to football games and competitions will ensure that the uniforms, purchased by the board of education two years ago, are kept in pristine condition and will allow for more room for the students on the school buses. The uniform trailer is just one item needed by the band. Other items on the wish list include: repairing six tubas, other instruments, practice lights, a regulation practice field, color guard flags and props for next year's show. The Jackson Memorial Band Parents Association relies on the home competition fundraiser to provide funding for many of these items.
The Jackson Jaguar Marching Band participated in 13 competitions and exhibitions during this year's season. Accolades, during this time, included: Group VI Open overall grand champion, Best Music, Best Color Guard and USSBA National Championship Third Place. The band is being considered to march once again in the 2009 Presidential Parade.
The Jackson Memorial Band Parents Association would like to thank the community, the participating bands, the many volunteers, the board of education and the township of Jackson for their help and support during the home competition and throughout the season.
