LOCAL RESIDENT APPOINTED TO U.S. NAVAL ACADEMY

JACKSON - Allen Wesley Powell, a Jackson Township resident, has been appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy following a rigorous recommendation process that included being selected by the office of U.S. New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez

Allen and his mother, Gloria, joined this year's crop of appointees at Sen. Menendez's Newark office for a reunion with the senator and the academy appointee board members.

Every year, the senator is able to nominate 10 aspiring cadets to each academy. This year, we had an especially high success rate for our 40 nominees. Of the 10 nominations to each academy, six were appointed to the U.S. Air Force Academy, six were appointed to the U.S, Military Academy at West Point, five were appointed to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and seven were appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy. Aspiring Coast Guard cadets apply directly to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
