A New Low In Jackson Politics

As a resident in Jackson for many years, I am so appalled at a recent letter to the editor written by a Joseph Schulman (Jackson Times, April 26), where he personally attacks a man who has dedicated his entire life towards making Jackson a better place to live. I truly admire Mike Kafton, not only for his accomplishments as a community leader but also because he continues to dedicate his time to make Jackson a better community even after people like Mr. Schulman viciously attacks his personal life.

Of course, I have never known Mr. Schulman to speak out against the fact that Mr. Seda has refused to take three drug tests, so far, and Ms. Ingram has refused to question him on it either.

To the people of Jackson, don't be fooled by the attacks against Mr. Kafton because his opponents will never share his achieve- ments with anyone.

Mike Kafton is a man who has helped raise money for families in their time of need for the last 25 years. He was part of an amazing team of residents who built Jackson Jungle. He gives money back to our schools through his business. When he was mayor, not only did he do his job by lowering the tax rate in Jackson, but he preserved hundreds of acres of land and created ordinances to slow residential growth. He was part of an administration that approved over three million square feet of commercial ratables. He actually made sure Jackson sprayed for gypsy moths. Mr. Kafton brought in a skate park and roller hockey rink as well as playgrounds and ball fields for our kids. He brought in a Park n' Ride for our commuters as well as new busing for our seniors. He created an ordinance to stop builders from closing roads and inconveniencing residents. He created a pedophile residential restriction ordinance to protect our kids. He created an oil tank ordinance to protect our mobile home residents from being taken advantage of by park owners. Mr. Kafton started the Meet the Mayor program in town as well as the Mayor's Teen Dances and the Mayor's Safe Trick or Treat and Movies in the Park. He saved our nutrition program, which benefits many seniors.

I just want to tell Mike Kafton to keep fighting for us as a community because his work has not gone unnoticed. He has been honored by the chamber of commerce in the past as Citizen of the Year and also Humanitarian of the Year by the Kimball Medical Center.

Keep up the good work, Mike. You will have my vote, once again, this May 13. I encourage all residents to condemn the personal smear tactics against Mr. Kafton in this election because I don't think we can risk another two years of Mayor Seda.
Jerry Gross,
Jackson
