Since When Is Charity Wrong?
This letter is written in response to the letter to the editor that appeared April 18 from Vivan T. Owen regarding the not-for-profit corporation set-up by Michael Kafton.

Whatever the criteria Mike Kafton has for dispensing funds from this corporation, they have been approved by the IRS as well as the agents responsible for authorizing such disbursements. It is obvious you are not one of them and, therefore, have absolutely no contribution except to attempt to soil his good name.

Mike raises a great amount of funding for various charitable organizations as well as citizens of Jackson; how could you possibly turn this into a campaign issue? I imagine you have never applied to the IRS for exemption or you would realize that it is a lengthy process on their timeline, not yours.

Please give me and the Jackson voters more credit than that, Ms. Owen, as we see the transparency in you to bring negativity into the upcoming election in an otherwise sincere offer to help those less fortunate.

Mike, where can I donate?
Dawn M. Nakash,
Jackson
