League Of Women Voters To Sponsor Meeting
TOMS RIVER - The League of Women Voters of Ocean County is co-sponsoring a community dialogue meeting entitled, "Let's Celebrate Our Environmental Successes" with the Toms River branch of the Ocean County Library on April 9 at 6:30 p.m.
The meeting will be held in Mancini Hall in the library located at 101 Washington Street. The following speakers for the evening will discuss their individual efforts in their communities to better their environment through citizen advocacy and activism.
James Fry, retired Navy engineer and Ocean Gate resident, will outline his efforts in researching the feasibility of the construction of a wind turbine in his municipality and successfully approaching his governing body to advocate for this energy-saving addition to his community. James will also summarize the outcome of the recently-held wind summit in Ocean Gate.
Christine Zeimetz, the owner of the Cookie Lady Cafe and Motel in Point Pleasant Borough, will share her successes in completely "greening" her cafe one step at a time. Christine will provide valuable tips for businesses to cut energy costs, practice better recycling and composting, and she will offer suggestions for purchasing more environmentally-friendly supplies for businesses.
Robin Lostetter, associate pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Point Pleasant Beach and member of Green Faith, an organization of environmentally active faith groups, will discuss the efforts of this coalition to educate and mobilize people from diverse spiritual backgrounds to work together to restore the Earth for future generations. Green Faith provides information to assist all religious groups of faith to transform their faith into action in the spirit of environmental stewardship and justice.
Jeff Brown, president of Global Learning, Inc. and founder and driving force behind the Green Schools Program, will share the successes achieved by area schools who have committed to saving energy through education and student action.
Members of Toms River High School South's South Environmental Awareness Club will be present to inspire them with a discussion of the success of their environmental projects.
