Public Works Department Welcomes New Street Sweeper
By Lauren Puglisi

--Photo By Lauren Puglisi Mayor Seda handed over the new keys to a street sweeping machine for the use of the Public Works Department in Jackson on Wednesday afternoon.
After years of servicing Jackson, the Public Works Department decided that their current street sweeping machine was in need of a replacement.

When Mayor Mark Seda and the Town Council were notified of the need for a new street sweeper last year, the equipment was factored into the township budget.

Now that move had paid off. The street sweeper is here.

According to Scott Sargent, a representative from the transport workers union and a groundskeeper at the Jackson Public Works Department, Jackson's old street sweeping machine was not performing as it should.

"The old machine couldn't take care of Jackson's streets in the way that the new one will," Sargent said. "We really appreciate that the council has been willing to spend money to upgrade the Public Works' equipment in Jackson."

Some of the other new purchases made for Public Works include three new pick-up trucks.

Public Works Supervisor Jose Garcia said the new street sweeping machine would be used on streets all over Jackson. The hope is to keep the township clean.

"It is possible that the old machine will also be used as a back-up after some repairs are made in the future," Garcia said.

Seda handed the new keys to Sarget on Wednesday afternoon and said the machine would be up and functioning throughout Jackson as early as next week.

"This purchase was a necessity for the township. The old sweeper wasn't holding up and since Jackson is continually adding new roads to their cleaning maps, I feel that this will help to maintain the township's grounds to a sufficient level," Seda said.

Director of Public Works Fred Rasiewicz said the purchase is going to be a big help to both township employees and residents.

"People will benefit from the usage of Jackson's new street sweeping machine because it will ultimately do a more effi- cient job on many of the township's roads," Rasiewicz said.

Rasiewicz also noted that the township's newly purchased machine will help with Jackson's "Clean the Environment" program. Under that program, residents will pitch in this summer to clean local parks and highly populated township areas.
